Raking Leaves - the quilt block Diaries

When I was about 11, I went with my Dad over to my grandparent’s house to help rake the leaves in their yard. I remember their property had many beautiful hardwood trees and each Fall the leaves would blanket the grass which, to a kid like me, was simply great fun! This was before the age of social media and constant incentives for children to stay indoors. Looking back, I’m so very thankful to have grown up in a time when crunching through leaves, putting on my cozy, over-sized flannel shirt, and spending the day with my Dad working hard to bless my grandparents meant it was a great day! My parents taught me the value of hard work and how much fun it can be to do things for others. I had a blast! Days like this would often end with Mom’s homemade chili, cornbread with butter and honey, and going to sleep beneath my cozy flannel sheets (which were a special treat in the midwestern Falls and Winters). Memories like this often spark ideas for quilt block patterns that I hope also bring back fond memories for you! My new “Raking Leaves” quilt block patterns are now available in my pattern shop and include an Autumn Tree, a rake with falling leaves, and the “Leaf” word quilt block.

Wishing you a sunshiney day!
